The Signal is a current affairs podcast about what is happening, why, and how it relates to Australians in 15-minute bite-sized episodes.

With Gen Y and Z tending to shun broadcast media saturated by an endless news cycle, The Signal is the ABC’s offering for younger Australians. Episodes are a deep dive into something topical or a major news story from the past 24 hours.

The focus of the show is broad, covering anything from the prosecution of Australian soldiers, to the significance of protests in Hong Kong.

Each episode is a scripted blend of news reportage, interviews with journalists and guidance from hosts Ange Lavoipierre and Stephen Smiley. Unlike similar shows that tend to rely on one anchor, listeners have two hosts to take them through the news, with the series produced by Chris Dengate.

The Signal is targeted to younger listeners who will appreciate the conversational tone, or those who aren’t already avid consumers of the news but still want to know what’s happening around the world.
