Pretty for an Aboriginal is long overdue. In this nine-part season (plus bonus live episode) published by Buzzfeed Australia, Nakkiah Lui and Miranda Tapsell – two smart, charismatic (and sometimes impish) Indigenous women – talk to people they admire about sex, love and race.
Lui and Tapsell are both actors and writers, and their ability to channel energy on-screen translates well to the podcast medium. Their style is irreverent; at the same time, they’re capable of bringing intellect and heart to discussions of serious social problems.
Season one wrapped in late 2017; will Pretty for an Aboriginal return for a second? Buzzfeed has been shedding staff and reeling in resources of late, so perhaps not. Will the show continue elsewhere? We can only hope.
